Vacationing on a Budget

July 25, 2017

Due to budgetary constraints, you may be wondering how you are going to be able to afford your next mortgage payment, let alone that luxury once-a-year vacation your family is accustomed to. So, what do you do when your finances won’t allow for a much needed getaway? Plan a staycation.

Staycations are designed to give you all the benefits of your time away from work by allowing you to indulge in life’s little pleasures, all while saving you big bucks in the process.

Not sure how to plan your staycation? Here are a few ideas:

  1. Pamper yourself.
With the money you’re saving on flights and hotels, pamper yourself with a trip to the spa, get a manicure/pedicure, or carve out time to read that book you’ve been trying to finish all year.
  2. Be a tourist in your own town/area.
Every town has something to offer. If your town is small, venture out to your surrounding areas and do that thing you’ve always wanted to check out but never had the time to. From restaurants you’ve always wanted to try to museums or arcades your kids have always wanted to check out, BaZing will be there to notify you if there’s a deal so you can save even more! (make sure you download the app before your staycation)
  3. Go Outside.
At work it’s likely you’re stuck in front of a computer screen or your smart phone all day. Vow to turn off all electronic devices and get outdoors. Take a hike, go on a bike ride, or get your fishing poles out and head to the lake – whatever you have to do to embrace those things that you used to find exciting as a child.
  4. Create goals for self-improvement.
You know that hobby you’ve been saying you are going to take up one of these days? Now is a great time to start! Whether it’s learning how to cook, play guitar, or knit, using your staycation to improve yourself will yield significant rewards.

Just because you can’t afford to take your family on some extravagant trip to the Bahamas or even Disneyland, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun where you’re at. Get creative. The money you save this summer could be used for that dream trip next year.
